RV Salesman "It's 1/2T towable"

I traded in a 5th wheel on a new toy hauler recently. I went to the dealers website the other day and got a good laugh. My old 5er was listed as 1/2T towable. "At a weight of only 9400 lbs it is 1/2T towable"

Maybe if you took out the battery and propane tanks and emptied the trailer. The 9400 is shipping weight and I added another A/C. The actual weight of the trailer when ready to camp is ~11,300 with ~2400+ lbs on the pin.

1/2T towable, Uh huh get real. Good laugh for me.
  • I recall seeing a photo of a marine I-6 diesel engine once. As I recall, it was somewhere north of 10,000 horsepower, and you could drop a garbage can down each cylinder. Sideways. I think that was the engine they expected you to have in your 1/2 ton PU . . . .

    Doesn't everybody?

All with a V6 engine! Imagine that!!! And made from recycle aluminum beer cans. I think I will just keep my old Dodge/Ram/Cummins!

    V6, I6, who's looking?

    365HP (stock), 245HP(stock), who's counting?

    All in fun Chris. :D

I would NEVER consider pulling 12K with an F150. I'll stick with the real HD trucks. It would be almost impossible to hook a 12K 5th wheel and stay under your rear 4800lb GAWR!!! I'm sure I just slighted all HD F150 owners didn't I?

Just a slight edit re the 2015s. The HD package is now only 7850.
  • I took my f150 when we started looking at 5er's, every salesman asked what I was towing with laughed when I showed him the f150, and tried to steer me in another direction.

Obviously the exception...f150 HDs are pretty rare though.

I walked out on a salesman a couple months ago when he insisted on telling me that Jayco Eagle HT's were half-ton towable. I offered to look up truck specs and he declined. This is absolute b.s. by the manufacturers and I'm just waiting for someone with more money than sense to sue one for false advertising. The =only= truly 1/2 ton FWs, IMO, are Scamp, and the like, with some older 19/20'-ers.
