Travel Village was my 1st choice, and is literally on the way with the only detour as turning left into the CG.
The 126 turns into the 101. There are no interchanges, connections, lights, etc. It ends and leads you North
*Your* route & suggestions inc'l as one of (my) posted options!
Check Yelp for Travel Village reviews.
Never stayed there - maybe the negatives are by folks hard to please, or hit it at a bad time..:?
No complaints in re 126 - (except maybe Travel Village).
BTW - when I want to get out -North- (through) L.A. from the general area the OP is departing from -
I leave OC in the wee hours of the AM.
And, of course, I'm not interested in camping in my backyard or yours .......
Although - for your turf - with trlr, and visiting BIL in Granada Hills, I use the Elks on Sierra Hwy.
Sooo for trips heading North.....it's on to Ventura via the 101.
Shoot for arriving at Rincon about 8AM - park for *free* just South of the paid camping area along the beach (NO parking until 8AM).
Large un-paved, flat, hard-packed dirt area for beach use. (Still avail?)
Grab a nap or breakfast - then on Northward.
If I get there too soon (way before 8AM) - just keep on truckin, to at least Grover Beach (Pismo) for a first (real) stop.
Note: NO overnighting at Wally in Pismo.
