I thank you all for your posts. As I can clearly see, running with tires that will easily carry twice my loaded rating is just not a good thing at all and can lead to problems quickly.
I am now reading through again, and finding suggestions that would fit well and are capable of carrying closer to 3000 pounds.
With the estimated actual tire carrying amount (weight versus tongue weight) should one have a tire that is rated to carry what might be on one side of the fifth wheel as in the case of a blowout of the other tire?
I am also assuming that tire inflation is based on carried weight, and that tires are quite happily run at under their full rated pressure.
As Me Again suggested, an 80psi tire run at 55/60 pounds would serve me well.
