I thank you all for your posts. As I can clearly see, running with tires that will easily carry twice my loaded rating is just not a good thing at all and can lead to problems quickly.
I am now reading through again, and finding suggestions that would fit well and are capable of carrying closer to 3000 pounds.
With the estimated actual tire carrying amount (weight versus tongue weight) should one have a tire that is rated to carry what might be on one side of the fifth wheel as in the case of a blowout of the other tire?
I am also assuming that tire inflation is based on carried weight, and that tires are quite happily run at under their full rated pressure.
As Me Again suggested, an 80psi tire run at 55/60 pounds would serve me well.
It seems you are over thinking this...It appears your 5er came with D rated tires..going to an E rated, you will have 3042#...more than enough for what you need.
As far as a blowout....some things can be over thought...if one has a tire blow out and that weight is distributed across the other three...I would assume, at blow out, one will only tow like that from the time it happens until they can safely stop and change tire...One should be covered just fine with tires they have, and again, if you go to an E rated tire, that means tires will be capable of carrying over 12,000# combined...your 5er come's no where near that number and your truck is carrying 20% of the 5er's weight also..
IF it were me and I couldn't find a good D rated tire, I'd opt for the RIBS if I could afford them or Duravis R250's that are just as good and not as expensive..
