Not for naught Chris, what I have learned is that C and D rated tires have had many problems. I have not yet seen a Carlisle E rated 16 inch problem tire anywhere.
I have learned about side slip, and why trailer tires are constructed different than light truck tires, and how one tire is built to flex into a curve, while the other is built to slip without flexing because they cannot curve.
It's all good, and I appreciate all of your input, and I hope it works out with my lightweight rig.
Most of what you read about ST tires is parroted hype! If St tires were as good as what is written about them, we would not read about all the failures of them on horse, boat, utility and RV trailers. They are cheap and have inflated ratings based on the speed restriction (65MPH) placed on all of them. Carlisle even fudges on the speed issue for their bass boat boys. Tow Max and Carlisle are trouting new Nylon overlays that is going to fix all the ST tire issues. HOWEVER Goodyear add this Nylon ply years ago to their Marathon and still has problems.
If you want ST tires then buy Maxxis! But with every ST tire you should replace them at 3-4 years, if they last that long.
The only thing you have going is a light weight rig like you said. If a steel carcass LT is out of your price range, then the Firestone Transforce HT in LT215/85R16E at $125-140 each would serve you fine, and give you 6-7 years of trouble free use.
