Today I went to the tire shops and looked at the Carlisle tire, and at a Prometer ST tire as well.
I then had a look at a Michelin.
Both experienced tire shop owners said I should buy the ST tires. I asked about inflation pressure, and they said to never run fully inflated, but run at a pressure that would correctly suit the load. This seems contrary to what I have read about how to run them.
Then I considered the 3400 full load capacity of the Carlisle tires, and thought my load would only be about 1800 on each tire. Just over half. I thought about the 215/85/16 R250's and their full load at 2600 pounds and thought about a pressure that seemed more like 75% to me.
I then considered the sidewalls and stiffness, and of course it occurred to me that rear tires on a truck go through exactly what tires on a trailer do when cornering, and that they urge you to rotate your tires on a truck to get even wear.
You will be relieved to know that LT tires will now be my choice. Thanks again. Mike
