Saving Johnson Valley

I have not been posting much about our fight to save J.V. from the Marine Base expansion but we just got some STELLAR news today. The Johnson Valley National OHV Recreation Area is one step closer to reality. Per the attached press release it has measure was rolled into the National Defense Authorization Act by a bipartisan vote of 59-2! Now off to the House floor for a vote, then to the senate. Assuming it all goes as planned Obama will sign the NDAA and it will be set. It would then take another act of Congress to take the land away.

Here's the press release:

Cook Press Release

This has been a huge effort over the past 1 1/2 years by CMRC.

Next up is the fight to save Ocotillo Wells.
  • If anyone is interested I have the full O.W. lawsuit as it was filed I can email.

Basically they are sueing over erosion caused by lack of trail maintenance and they state that a trail is just about anything. They are attempting to force this SVRA to be run like Gorman with only designated trails that in turn can be maintained. This is how our Ecologic attorney is interpreting the lawsuit.

Tierra Del Sol is in with us as we move forward.

Hmm. Good news but had no idea Ocotillo was in jeopardy... especially after the expansion.

The environmentalists feel the State is not managing the area properly and causing damage.
