We have gone from a small travel trailer, to bumper pull trailers, a fifth wheel, and a class A motorhome. We sold the motorhome and now are looking at fifth wheels again. We have narrowed our search down to the Keystone Montana, Jayco product, and possibly the Grand Design, Solitude.
I have been reading a lot of negative posts on the Schwintek slide system. I believe that Jayco and the Grand Design use this system but not the Montana. Is the Schwintek system really that bad or have they fixed their system? Am I correct that the Montana uses a different brand / system?
I have been up close and personal with the two large Schwintec slides that I have. One is a bedroom slide that is 14 feet long and has the king bed with a dresser and two closets in it. The other is on the same wall and is 15 feet long. It houses my 12 cubic foot refrigerator 7 feet of counter and 5 feet of entertainment center with fire place and mantle.
We had trouble with both slides. The latter slide problem had to do with my stocking the fridge with too much of my adult beverage. The slide was screeching across the kitchen floor when closing. Took several trips to figure that one out. That problem was self inflicted and solved.
The bedroom slide would not close up to the seals of the outside wall. Took over a year to finally get that one figured out no thanks to the idiots at Dutchmen and Thor. Ended up being a water leak that had swollen the lower board of the slide. Schwintec's tolerance was so close that the swollen board hindered its movement. Replaced bottom board. Walla! Works perfect, now $1500.00 later. Again, no thanks to the idiots at Dutchmen/Thor.
You're talking about Schwintec. I have given you a Schwintec story.
Good luck on your 5er hunt.
