Securing Valuable

How does one secure valuables, i.e currency, docs, AND firearms?

One vendor said, oh we can put in a safe... ok, what is the fire rating of the safe, they were thinking a lock box.

We're heading towards a 5th wheel being part time, with a park model in a campground being more permanent "home". But I worry about securing valuables that might travel with us.
  • where our park model is at, sign at the entrance says no drug.s, no cameras, no firearms. Contract I signed is no illegal firearms. I generally open carry, managing director has asked that I keep it on my site, especially since I have some less than firearm friendly neighbors. He has requested I spend some time with his wife teaching her... but she's so far not wanted to.

I struggle with in the to vehicle, as even with the under seat hidden storage, there's still the whole issue of domicile. At least in the 5th wheel, there's a reasonable chance of declaring domicile.

We have a quite a collection that includes NFA items. Traveling across state lines becomes a lot more interesting. Sometimes I wonder if selling the house is in our best interest :(
  • As a retired Deputy Sheriff, I have a Pistol Permit and also qualify annually with my former department so I can carry weapons in all 48 contiguous States under the National Carry Concealed Law Enforcement Safety Act and it's rare that I don't have a firearm with me. My case is different than most but I installed a firearm safe in my tow vehicle rather than in my 5th wheel. I also carry it concealed on my person when not in my tow vehicle and don't leave it unattended. At night when sleeping it's within my reach. However traveling from State to State and to most campgrounds with a firearm is a whole other issue for private citizens. Follow whatever applicable laws that pertain to you as well as the campground rules where you're staying regarding firearms. Most campgrounds I have been to have rules against having firearms. With all that said, in today's world, there isn't a snowballs chance in hell that I'm going to be without a firearm.
  • I bolted one down in the closet. Worked fine for us. Add a large dog and its not likely many will bother you.
  • I bolted down a gun (pistol) safe under my bed and under the dinette seat. not fireproof but I was more worried about theft than fire.
I "assume" the same could be done for a small fireproof lock box/safe.

  • Buy a small fire rated safe. Many are bolt down. I have several areas in my 5er that I can hide one. Under a night stand, the bed or a blank panel under the kitchen counter.
