setting out landing gear while still hooked up to truck

We are going to be doing a lot of traveling this summer with some one night stays. We have a self-leveling landing gear system, but have always unhitched the camper before putting down the landing gear. However we'd like to know if we can put out the gear while still hooked to the truck. We don't want to un-hitch each night, but the camper seems to be more stable with the gear down.
  • I also agree, don't try to auto level while hook up. I unhook and pull the truck just outside the hitch and auto level. In the morning a raise the back jacks and hit right and left button at the same time and seeks the last unhitch height making simple to re-hitch up.
  • If I were to drop all 6 jacks on our 5th wheel while still hitched up, I certainly wouldn't try an AutoLevel!! The nose drops dramatically on ours to start the auto-level process, and the fact that the hitch would prevent it from doing so might well inhibit the AutoLevel logic.

If you're only looking for stability, you could extend the front and rear jacks in manual mode and retract them in manual mode (or use AutoRetract) the next morning.
