So my husband and I are currently getting things in order to live full time in an RV with our 2 children ( at least for a year) in order to travel. I have a concern with purchasing a rig that leave little ccc and want to avoid itWe seem to be getting conflicting infoDoes the CCC weight include assumed full tank weight and sleeping capacity or no? I say no based off what I read but my husband showed me an article where 154lbs per sleeping capacity and full tank weight was assumed and included in the total weight before the CCC ( as in not additional numbers to take out of the stickered CCC) I hope I am explaining this correctly we are very new to all of this but are very excited and dedicated to assuming the lifestyle TIA

I'm assuming you're talking about a 5th wheel since this was posted in the 5th wheel forum.Try to find the GVWR and the shipped/dry weight. Subtract the smaller number from the larger, that is the CCC. Most shipped/dry weights will not include full propane tanks, battery/ies, and other misc. items, and I don't believe there is any hard and fast "rule" about what the CCC is based on, except the above formula. It just depends on how each company figures theirs.

thank you, that is what I figured I guess the ones I looked at didn't have it figured and the ones he looked at did. Can you recommend any good quality makes or models that may have a good leftover ccc? TIA

As usual, the wife is correct. Nothing extra is figured in the weights. CCC is the difference between GVWR minus net shipping weight when it left the factory. No fluids, no propane, often no batteries, and definitely no sleeping people unless a bum sneaked onboard at the factory scale.If you are looking at sales brochures to get the shipping weight, any options that your dealer may order are not included either. So those also cut into your CCC.

As I understand things, basically CCC is the amount of stuff you can add to the RV and still go down the road safely. This is reduced pound for pound when you add propane, water, batteries, etc. So in the real world your going to want an RV with the highest CCC you can find and aford. Tou will be really suprised how fast weight adds up especially for full timers when you start adding food, clothes, shoes, toiletries for three people. For a full timer packing light is simply not an option. While you will pare down on stuff, there is atill a certain amount of stuff you will want to have. Amd that adds up really fast.

I haven't found a line of Rv's that have a large CCC. Sometimes there are one of two units in a series that have larger CCC than the rest. Either its the smaller unit that is lighter so the axles are not maxed out, or its a larger unit that had to have larger axles and tires installed because the smaller ones couldn't do the job. We searched for one that had lots of room to spare in the axle and tire department. It's hard to find that and all of the other features you are desiring.

The reason I know this is our '12 Sandpiper 365SAQ came with 6k axles and weighed a lot more than they claim it did. So after loading generator and having it weighed, it had 137 pounds of CCC BEFORE anything was put into it. After a 6 week problem solving conversation with FR, they sent new wheels, axles, springs and U-bolts to me dealer for them to put in. Since then, they've changed out over 40 that we know of. Just beware.

I would suggest to the OP that they rule out the Vanleigh 375FL that was reviewed in the June '17 Trailer Life magazine. It's a 40" fifth wheel that has a whopping CCC rating of 360 pounds.

You are correct. The chief engineer at FR says that they do weigh for propane on all models and water and propane on others such as toyhaulers. Check the stickers and if unsure, call them.

Cedar Creek's have some high CCC's as well and if kids in tow, perhaps a mid bunk 5er.

You usually would have to get into a toy hauler in order to get some decent carrying capacities. Most of them are in the 3000-4000# range, there are some higher and some lower. Most are usually bigger than fifth wheels too at 42-44ft long.

I'm constantly amazed at wide range of CCC in trailers. Some of them are just ridiculously low with less than 500# with max water. I personally want to see at least a couple thousand pounds as a minimum. For one I just don't want to have to worry about what I carry but I also want a trailer that is a little overbuilt rather than being right on the line. These things are weak enough as is.

Might just be the weight of the extra bed. Not an occupant. Might be different for motorized coaches though, since the occupants are definitely part of the load while traveling. Occupants are not figured in trailers.

nope, the printed capacity was one person on that unit. TWO on the other one. like 1 person is the usual content of riders, Not.

My 5th wheel has a GVWR of 14,375#
My 5th wheel has a UVW of 10,218#

Sub total CCC of 4,157#

But have to subtract:
Fresh water 664#
Propane 58#

Total CCC of 3,435#

**Dealer installed equipment will reduce CCC
So subtract 2 Interstate Group 27 batteries 50#/each

So CCC for my 5th wheel is 3,325#

Big difference in the definition of CCC in motorhomes compared to trailers. MH CCC is how much stuff you can put in with it ready to move...full fuel, full fresh water, propane, batteries, and 154 times sleeping capacity. For full-time in a TT I would want over 2000+ pounds by the motorhome definition less the fuel and 154 X.
