Short Bed Towing Advice

Hello,

I have a '99 Ford 250 4x4 and I would like some towing advice. My truck has a gooseneck hitch that I would like to use for a 5th wheel camper I am about to purchase. In the past I used a gooseneck hitch with a 5th wheel but I had a long bed at that time.

This time, I am noticing that the hitch is mounted slightly in front of the rear axle. I only have 35" in between the ball hitch and the cab and I'm thinking this is too little clearance to tow a 5th wheel using the gooseneck hitch.

I'm curious as to what others think about this. Even with a 7.5" gooseneck adapter offset, it doesn't offer much clearance on a typical 96" wide camper. I'm going to measure the distance from the hitch pin to the front of the camper tomorrow, but the math doesn't look good to me.

In light of this, I'm starting to consider 5th wheel hitches. I have an under the bed mounted hide away type gooseneck hitch so I don't know if that limits my options but I am curious. I hate the idea of having rails in the bed, but I will do what I need to. Also, if it helps with hitch advice, this isn't a large 5th wheel- 1,500 lbs hitch weight, 10k lbs GVWR.
