Short bed Vs Long Bed Truck pulling performance

I have a short bed, 2007 Chevy 2500HD. I am beginning to consider a new truck and was curious whether a long bed provides a more comfortable ride than the short bed?

  • I like a long bed for space and not having a slider, I have a shortbed and it rides no differant them my boys longbed. seems like the longbed has more axle rap and has an extra support bearing for the drive shaft. Dodges for us.
  • Get the standard long bed. No slider or folding hitch required.

Yes a long bed will ride better and be more stable.
  • I have had both and currently have a Ford F350 crew cab long box. I prefer the long box for the ride and in many cases a long box has a larger fuel tank which I also like. With that being said, my short box trucks all did great to!
  • I think ride is an immaterial consideration. To me it boils down to easier maneuverability and parking versus greater cargo space. Contrary to what many seem to think, both short beds and long beds have pros and cons - claiming one is the superior choice for all scenarios is idiotic. But that doesn't stop some folks. :R
  • While most will say the longer WB rides better, I don't think you'd really notice a big difference. A shorter WB works better for maneuvering, especially with a FW. IMO, get the bed length you like, in the cab style you like. I think you'll like the ride of a new truck vrs the one you have.

  • I had a short bed Chev 3/4 ton which was ok but the trans went out in a little over 20K miles then I bought a F250 long bed Ford which handles great but takes a city block to turn around. I still prefer long bed over short. As far as the ride I believe the long bed rides better
