Is it adjustable ahead/back? Measure from center of hitch hole, jaws closed, level ahead to back of cab, to check distance. If need be, the hitch pin center, can be right over rear axle center. You cannot expect to back to a 90 degree angle, but most turns forward, should not cause the issue you encountered.

No it is not adjustable. It fits in 4 factory holes in the bed. Was thinking on some type of movable rotating kingpin.
