Should We Get A New Hitch?!

Have towed this 5vr with this truck for at least 4K plus miles without incident! Made a too sharp turn at a fuel stop and POW, there goes the rear window! Now I am super self conscience of my turns. Was thinking about a new kingpin on the trailer that automatically breaks at a certain degree angle to the 5vr. Any recommendations?

X2. Shrug it off, move on

  • You failed to provide details on the hitch you are using!!! The Andersen can be turned around to move the hitch back in the bed. B&W support post have multiple settings for and aft. So what hitch do you currently have.Chris

  • Sorry it happened. I've got a nice crease in my C pillar for the same reason. Didn't break my window, though.
  • I put a dent in the cab of my old truck. Very lucky I didn't pop the window as well. I had a manual sliding hitch, but it was a PITA to use.

After that, I went with the SuperGlide. It is nice to not think about how sharp you are turning.
  • I feel your pain. A couple of years ago the same thing happened to me. I wasn't paying attention and turned too sharp and lost a rear window. I still have a non sliding hitch. I've towed thousands of miles without an issue. I don't think it will happen again because I'm much more aware of my turns now.
I want a hitch that isn't too heavy because I need to remove it quite often. If there is any for aft adjustment in your hitch I would move it to the most rearward position.
