Silly question.

I have a question about license plate location. My license plate was on the left side of my 5er. It covered part of the door for the electrical cord so you couldn't open the door all the way. I accidently broke the tabs off of the left tail light for the license plate. I made a new bracket on the right tail light. Is this legal? Does it matter which side the license plate is on? I did switch the lenses as the one for the license plate is clear on the bottom. Thanks, John

Yes it does matter.. If your right handed it should be on the left side & if your left handed it should be on the right side. If you ambidextrous doesn't matter, either side. lol :B

As stated previously, it does not matter. I disagree that is a silly Question. The only silly Question is the one you fail to ask.

License on my daughters GN horse trailer is at the top left corner of the left rear door. This keeps it out of the way of a lead. close to 8" off the surface of the road.
  • Mine is in the middle, don't think location matters much in any state. You might have a light issue since your new location might not have a clear lens on the bottom of the tail light. It would have to be a pretty slow night for the LEO to pull you over for it though :W
  • Our pop-up has it on the right, our 5er has it in the middle, last trailer had it on the left... If it matters no one told the mfg's...
