Thanks so far! Great info. We are looking at a 35' (Heartland BC 3150RL) with dry weight just under 11,000#. Figuring normal load of about 2,500#, this makes 13,500# which is about 15% under the rated towing load of the (2010) F-250 diesel. To those towing pros does this fit the truck, or still think 1 ton dually? Thanks.
My trailer is similar. 10,500# dry loaded around 12,000# (14,000#? GVWR) and 35-36' I forget. Have to remember it's just not pulling it but you need to carry the pin weight. My pin is around 22% or 2640# average pin is around 20%. 13,500# (your guess) x .20 = 2,700# pin. Can you carry fuel, people, hitch and everything else for the trip and a 2,700# pin weight? You are probably 10,000# max GVWR so full of fuel, people and hitch you are probably 7,500#-8,000# before adding RV. My F350 is 8,200# ready to go camp. Yes, I have a dually but I use a Reese Goose Box so I don't have hitch weight, just pin weight. Two extra tires about same weight as a hitch in bed.
Ford towing guidesNeed to weight your truck so you will know what size pin weight you can handle. Since my trucks is just for pulling the camper I bought the dually and have not regretted the ride or stability. Good luck.
