Slide Stuck, Awning Stuck

We have a 2015 Keystone Cougar Fifth Wheel. The small bedroom slide is stuck closed at the top, bottom works fine. When you extend the slide if you give the top a good push it pops out.

My thoughts are the awning that covers the slide is stuck and takes more force than the bottom rail for the slide is producing.,

Has anyone had this issue before and is there an easy way to fix it

Appreciate your feedback.

  • Some of the Carefree toppers will stick bad- they use around a 1" aluminum tube as the axle, and a plastic "bearing" . I've seen them bind very badly. The standard Dometic can wear through the end cap, and bind.

Both problems are pretty obvious if you watch the topper while extending the slide.
  • You can reach up and unfurl the awning by hand. That will show you if it's really sticking (probably not).
  • TampaDave, several years ago I had about what sounds like the same issue. I watch outside while my wife extends the slides. Our large side started out but I could here it starting to bind up. Looked up quickly and saw the slide cover not rolling out and was getting so tight that you could have been able to play a tune on it. Hollered at her to stop which she did. I went up on our traveling ladder and the awning tube was tight. After "massaging" it a little, it finally stared to unroll and I heard something "pop". After it did come out I took thee assembly apart and found the spring mechanism was hanging up on a rivet. Drilled out that rivet, installed a slightly shorter rivet and it has been find since. I would say something is binding up your roller somewhere.
  • It sure seems like the awning and the awning cover. and it is just the top,,,

So if I was going to adjust the slide, is that a pretty straight forward process? All the mechanism is under the bed, Any tips to make it easier.
