slideout beam repair

It will be very interesting to see what you find in regards to both rot and structure.

the roof has not sagged but I will not use it any more until I repair.

I'm interested in what you find also. I'm also from central NJ if you need a hand.

I replaced mine in our previous TT. A 2000 Coachmen. I did it without removing the slide. I did everything from the inside. While it worked out it would have been much easier to do with the slide removed and some of the siding. Good luck, John

Please check the floor front and back edges on all slides. My 05 365BSQS had the edge trim in the wrong place and all the slide floors rotted out. Repair agency wanted 4-6 thousand to repair each slide. I traded it in.

well I had the time and the garage available to do repair on the beam. The 14 foot beam was rotted out from the upper gutter screws leaking for some time. I have few pics but will take more as I am replacing section of ceiling with thin plywood panel and I replaced entire sidewall with wood paneling. I removed the slider complete and the floor was good however the pantry closet external wall was shot. I also reinforced the roof beams and made braces for more strength.

and a last few pics of almost finish repair job. I will just paint the replaced ceiling panel that I used.

I have the 95 30ft Fleetwood Prowler which looks to be the same RV.

Were you able to push the slide out the last bit by hand or did you need a come along or jack of some kind? Did the slide floor rollers give you any trouble going in or out?

What slide mechanism does yours have and what kind of seal did you use on the bottom of the slide when you put it back, or were you able to salvage your gasket on the bottom? Mine uses a cable system and I unwittingly destroyed my gasket/seal when I removed the carpet several years ago. I used a machete to break loose the carpet under the slide and got to rambunctious :(

Likes like you did a good job, is that a 2 x 6 you replaced the rotten beam with?

WOW...Thats a very ambitious project. Way more than I would have ever dreamed of doing. Our old 95 Hornet went down the road rather than try to fix it. Looks really nice after you finished it though. Looks more homy

I have the electric hydraulic slide. The last few inches were where we had to jack it up a half inch to clear the stopper. No rollers on this just a skid pad at end of carpet. I did not touch carpet.
The beam that we used is standard 2x4 14 ft.6 long and then a 1x2 attached to duplicate what was there for the metal frame and seals.
I replaced the inside seal that the removable wood frame hides and the outside seals. This old Wilderness is in great shape other than what we repaired and it was well worth the effort as we are off season in my construction work plus I had access to shop.
