Short Bed truck.
Automatic slider - PR SuperGlide.
Gets used a lot. Tight turns. Had to regularly make a tight loop where I parked my trailer.
Got to watch it work often - and see how close the trlr got to the TV.
(cringed the first time I did that - the spotter also)
Occasional U-turn every now and then.

Trailer (a 2006) was before the current "don't need a slider" models.

Those that don't have one, and wish they did - usually know who they are, LOL!..;)

A friend was workcamping in Alaska. Got there early in the season.
His camp spot was plowed - but required some tight maneuvering due
to the snowbanks.
He had a manual slider - but it was cold and figured he could get it
done w/o getting out.
Bad choice. Knocked out the back window. Local auto glass shop/s
didn't have a replacement (took two weeks).
Temp plastic for a back window not good in Alaska.

He wished he had:
1. Moved his manual slider to the rear position..:S -(or)-
2. Had an automatic slider (he does now).

Kinda like the 4X4 folks......
Better to have it and not need it (4X4) - -
than to need it and not have it...:W

Another vote for a Superglide (Auto-slider)
My fiver has a straight front and would be 11" into my cab at 60 degrees but for the slider.
It's still close, but it misses!

Most newer fivers are "cut" in the front so that they won't hit the truck when cutting really sharp. However, you could go a year or two and never have to slide your hitch and then one day you get on some uneven ground.

If your FW leans a little while jacking it into a tight camp site you could find that you do need a slider.

With my current hitch, a Superglide, every time. With my prior manual slider, not once in 2 years. I have an old style nose 5er with no plans to change rigs. One might say why make the change, peace of mind is worth something and I had some issues with the old manual sllider I wanted to eliminate.

Another happy SuperGlide owner here. Not sure how often it's *needed*, but am always happy with it. I can tell you the first campground we pulled into with it was needed. Backing uphill into an unlevel site, I thought all was OK (wouldn't have expected needing it) but suddenly the truck lurched and I was looking at the corner of the 5er tilted a couple inches away from the back window - would have punched it out for sure. Nice to have peace of mind...but it costs...

Depends on your circumstances. For me, a sliding hitch is necessary but I use mine so rarely that a manual slider suites me fine. Also half the price of a PullRite, lighter and easier to remove if you are one who removes your hitch often to make use of your truck's bed.

Been using the same PR Superglide since 2006. First truck 06 Dodge 2500 short bed 4x4 never a problem... even during full turn extreme leaning in unlevel sandy sites,the hitch slides back by design during all turns.

Now the same hitch is in my signature truck,works great when backing into tight sites with a dually... the slide action is actually turning the 5ver as I back in.The unsolicited peanut gallery was watching as I backed the rig into a very tight turn site on the first try awhile back and then walked off without comment sucking on their cigarettes.

My neighbor down the street has taken out 2 back windows and crunched the cab up on his short box truck because he didn't want to get out and slide his manual slide hitch back... go figure.

14 years w/o a slider, then 10 years with a manual slider that I never used (now sitting in my garage), currently 2 years w/o a slider. Now my hitch is again removable in two light weight pieces. Generally, the "need" for a slider can be avoided by a little extra jockeying back and forth.

Never used mine in the 6 years I've owned it. It's so rusted now I doubt it would work. Thinking about selling it and going back to the non-slide version.

I was all set on getting a Superglide but ended up with the Andersen and couldn't be happier. It moves the pivot point back about 5" from a conventional hitch and is plenty for me to safely get to 90* with my new 102" wide body 5er
