With all the "sage advice" you like to post, I'm surprised you didn't do your homework before making such a silly statement!.:R
Check the safety features.
Check the crash tests.
Ever ride a two wheel death trap (motorcycle)?..:S
Or - is that (also) just too risky?..:h

You willing to go head to head with me in my Dually with 1,000# chunk of Cummins cast iron under the hood?
I did my time in a VW Diesel PU 300K worth with my knees in the dash just to save a buck. 44MPG, I realized my life and my responsibility as a Husband and Father were more important! - Cummins12V98Explorer III

A whole string of people stuck in the fifties! Size and weight are no protection. The smart is one of the safest cars on the road as far as passenger protection goes. You have a full roll cage in the safety cell, anti-lock brakes, stability control, 8 airbags, etc.
I wrecked one smart (yes it was my fault) and all that happened was that the air bag knocked off my glasses. The poor smart was totaled (mainly due to European content on a gray market model), but the doors opened and closed perfectly after a hard front end impact.
Do some research before you blow off your bazzoo and show your ignorance.
Not necessarily a death trap and a good design for its size but in an accident with a larger car it will not fair well. Read the summary here and watch the video
Large car vs small car
Yah you can't deny physics. Having said that there has been a fair amount of study going into why the fatality rates per capita are so low with the smart car. Kinda defies logic. There is evidence that points to things like stopping distance, agility and even driver attitude and average age (40 to 60 mostly). Whatever it is, they are a lot of fun to drive, handle well, get great mileage (especially those of us with diesels) and are inexpensive to buy and maintain. And they look kinda cool. We use our smarties for everything and hope they last a long time. Thinking about getting an electric though.
I would agree with you on the mileage part with the Diesel but the gas mileage is horrible considering it's size. - Cummins12V98Explorer III

Really? People die in all kinds of vehicles including pickups every day across N.A. This car is no worse than some and better than others. A blanket statement with no facts.
They look funny beside my truck but I'd have no issue driving it to work.
I don't need anything to back up common sense! If I hit one with my dually it would be destroyed. - ventrmanExplorer

I am sorry that I digressed. I do not really like the Tone of your Post. It sounds like an Order. I do not respond well to Orders. In the Future, I would ask that you phrase your Post as a polite Request rather than sounding like you are demanding something. We have enough Moderators on this Forum already.
Thanks. - Mile_HighExplorerNot sure what everyone is shocked about, my truck has instructions for how to properly load a camper into the bed of the truck, and how to properly load your wife's car on the roof.

Not a fan of the Smart Car myself. Not high enough mpg for the cost and cramped size. Too many other cars that get decent mpg and much more room.
In Canada you can find the diesel models. VERY decent fuel mileage.
They have the diesel versiion in Canada. I do not think you can bring them to the States.
no you can't because there is 20% biodiesel in the states and that isn't metric so it will wreck the whole fuel system. It's a known issue since Lippert bought out Smart.
Hmmm. We have been driving our little diesel about 6 months of the year in the US for about 7 years. I do use a cetane booster quite often but so far I haven't noticed any problems. Crossing my fingers. :)
Whats a lippert. - notevenExplorer III
