Since it is a 'ball coupler', many states would require safety chains. It is not a big deal. I have the B&W turnover ball. It comes with the safety chain hooks. The Andersen safety chain kit secures to the B&W hooks and has easy to connect hooks that attach to their adapter mounted on the 5er. You can easily reach it from the back of the truck. A Goose Neck hitch has the long 'elephant' truck hanging down from the 5er. The Anderson ball adapter attaches right to the Hitch Pin. Absolutely no lateral stress on the Pin Box. The Andersen is NOT a Gooseneck hitch. It is a Ball Coupler.
