Actually the gooseneck hitch will bear the vertical weight of either the Anderson or B&W, as most styles of gooseneck are mounted directly under the bed corrugations and onto the truck frame. Most goosenecks also have a vertical load rating of between 6,000 and 7,500lbs, a lot more than the pin weight of most fifth wheels. This is just the gooseneck hitch, not the added load carrying capacity of the bed itself.
Think about the weight that is applied when the brakes are hit hard and when going over some of these overpasses the hitch IS pushing fore and aft and it will and does deflect the bed. I have dents to prove it in the 11 I just traded. Once I installed the strips the deflection stopped!
