Just in case any of the real Andersen user/owners/potential owners are interested. When I got my Andersen Ultimate Aluminum, I already owned the stock GMC rubber bed mat. It's the GMC OEM one you can buy from the GMC dealer or online GMC parts places for about $60-$100. I needed to cut a hole in it so my gooseball could stick up when flipped. While I was at it, I also cut slits for the safety chain attach points. When I was cutting the hole in it for the gooseball, the tough, thick (about 3/4") pieces that came out look like they're made from recycled tire rubber. I used a small saw and later a razor box knife to do the cuts.
Anyway, the two bolts on the Andersen that torque down the pyramid to the ball coupler easily accommodated the extra thickness of the mat and the hitch tightened down normally.
So for me, I now have a 3/4" rubber cushion between the Andersen footings and my bed. Since I easily remove the Andersen when not towing, I need not worry about the rubber wearing or loosing because each time I put the hitch back in the bed, at that point I re-torque it down tight.
I checked with Andersen and they said that they have many owners that use those mats as a protective cushion to their truck bed. The hitch's design accommodates mats, sprayed in beds, etc. Most importantly, it doesn't impact performance or safety of the hitch.
