Sounds strange to me

We're in Yuma for the winter & my neighbour just traded in his MH for a 5er. Brand new 39'-0 Montana with 5 slides. approx. 13,000 lbs. dry. The dealer towed it in for him with a Ram 2500 diesel. They told him all he needed to tow it with was a 3/4 ton so he went out and bought a brand new Ram 2500 diesel. It would seem to me he would need a 1 ton, but I'm not a Pro.

1 ton sgl RW and 3/4 ton sgl RW trucks use the same rear axles, tires and brakes. If the one ton can stop it so can the 3/4.

Good point ! As nice as it is, it still has electric drum brakes. I like my swap to disc's.
  • Can he tow it? Absolutely. Should he tow it? Absolutely not!!! That is a brute, he would be pushing the limits of a F-350/3500 dually and should be looking at an mdt. Let's hope he scares himself into upgrading the truck before he kills himself or somebody else.
  • Well, I disagree with the general consensus (but in another way agree).

I disagree with everyone and agree with the dealer because the 2500 WILL tow it.

I agree with everyone because the question is: HOW LONG will it be able to tow it?
  • Sad because he will more than likely find out the hard way that he needs a one ton and with that much weight, my preference, a dually too.
  • Never believe a dealer, no matter what he is talking about. He is wrong about that one, although people do it.
