SRW needing airbags?

I just took delivery of my 2015 F350 SRW. According to the specs, my payload is above 4,000 pounds. A couple of the different fifth wheels we are looking at have dry hitch wieghts right around 2500 pounds. I know once we load, that weight will go up to around 3 or so. I had bags on my 150 of course, but will I need them on the 350 with that much weight left over? Or should I wait and see how it rides and make my determination from that?

Our 2015 350 SRW pulls a heavy fiver... I had bags from a previous truck that I put on when new... BUT the truck is level without air in them...

I suggest to wait till after the first tow to see..

Side note... the published pin weight is worthless... take the GVW and times it by 20%.. that will get you closer to the true pin..

Great pictures! I am considering an F350 for my next TV, I'm still not sure about the DRW or SRW but I like the way yours looks with the trailer hooked up.do you happen to know what your pin weight is?

Thanks , depending on the length of my trip , I'm at 3,050# give or take...the closest I was to max was 3210# ..which is close to max for me. Under my GAWR and my GVWR... My tires are rated at 3750 and have room there.. Had a DRW , back in the day , like the SRW , it's also my plow truck , much easier moving snow in driveways with a SRW.

  • I am 50 lbs under my payload capacity (2736) and my truck rides level. Agree to get a loaded trailer and see how it looks.

A lot of the time airbags are added for esthetic purposes to "level" the truck to the unloaded height.

Is it gas or diesel? Check out the cargo and occupant sticker on your driver's door post for an accurate payload for your specific truck. Or maybe you already did.

    +1

What does the truck say your carrying capacity is?
  • Once loaded up look at your overload springs. When I hooked up I as about a 1/8" to 1/4" off my overloads. When I hit a bump in the road I got a 2nd bounce as the suspension engaged and disengaged the overloads. I got a better ride by the Firestone Riderites.

  • I have a 2007 3500 SRW and tow 14K 5vr. Wet pin is 2950#.....no bags

I would wait until you hookup 'camp ready' (all the people/stuff etc.) and see how it sits/tows. May need to make hitch/pin box adjustments.

Then go across some scales and get real world weights.

That 2015 F350 SRW should handle a 15,000 GVWR trailer just fine.
Remember.....FT is about easy/laid back traveling (not vacation mode) and Less is More' (just because you have room/spot for something doesn't mean you have to fill it) 1 bag in/2 bags out :B

  • We have a 2013 3500 SRW that carries a 14000lb 5er very well without air bags...
  • I would wait and see how it rides. If it doesnt ride level, then add airbags. If it does, spend the money on camping stuff :-)
