SRW (Single Rear Wheel) Truck towable Mobile Suite?

So we have been window shopping for a 5th wheel since we sold our Class C in Spring 2012. We have a 2008 SRW diesel Ford and I have been keeping my searches to the models I felt we could handle without having to replace our current truck. We just received the new air bags, compressor and rail kit to install our Hensley BD3, so we are getting closer (just need to install).

I've always figured the higher end DRV (Mobile Suites) were way out of my weight class, even the shorter models. However, while browsing their front page I saw this.......

Ok, so it obviously isn't their larger models, but it is hope for us SRW owners. DRV doesn't seem like a manufacturer to cut corners or take chances, with their products or their marketing.

Given the lack of a front passenger side slide, I am guessing this is a 340 RES Tradition model. The OEM web site doesn't have any specs, and all I can find on the weight is 11,725 dry weight on a few dealer pages.

Does anyone have any pin weight info on this model?

Thanks,
OJ
  • Call DRV, get the all the spec's, do the math with yer truck, and you can easilly determine your answer.

Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)
  • OJ,

"Sure, that truck you own will pull the 5er I want to sell you!"
"Sure, that truck that I have that i want to sell you will pull our 5er I want to sell you!"

Buyer beware. Read the fine print on towing specs. Yes you can go years towing unsafely without a mishap. Be informed, spend a few extra/fewer bucks to buy right the first time, rather than a lot more to trade out/up/down to get into a balanced safe rig setup.

    Happy hunting and travels.
  • Disregard......

I should have looked at the Brochure for 2013 340 RES. Pin weight is 2950lbs. Way too much.

    Oh well.

Keep 5'vr GVWR under 14K and you will be fine.

The pin weight on our 5'vr is little over 2900#.
Puts us right at truck GVWR, RAWR and load rating on rear tires.

    ON EDIT:
Looked at a 2013 Brochure for Traditions
The 'dry pin weights' start at 2875#

A DRV may NOT be in your future with that SWR
A loaded trailer ready to camp pin weight will be closer to 3050-3100#

I am fairly certain you are right. We have looked at RV's for a year and think a Redwood 31SL might be right for us and our truck. However, I am going to look closer at the Mobile Suites at the Hershey RV show in September. I read online that the "Tradition" line was built to compete with other 5th wheel brands like Montana. If the pin weight empty is around 2500, I would be willing to look closer.

  • I would call DRV and ask them for more info about the new Traditions. You can request a broshure on line as well.
