IMO nobody said STs could handle shearing better than LTs. They both need full pressure to be best at that. All anybody said somewhere AFAIK was that STs are built to take more weight for their own size.
I know my trailer tires ST or LT have to be narrow 225/75 to fit in the well. I don't know if there is a table of comparable load capacities between a 225/75 ST and a 225/75 LT handy for the same tire height/diameter. Maybe that would show something.
I know if our trailer had 16" wheels, I would want to use my old truck tires on the trailer whenever I got new truck tires. As it is with 15" wheels I can't do that, and anyway the truck tires are too wide for the trailer wells even if I did have 16" wheels. Bigger trailers might have wider wheel wells, don't know.
