Stabilizer

Considering a tri-pod king pin stabilizer for our fiver. Basically is it a good investment? I've seen other systems for more $$ where you attach a unit to the frame and then hook them to the landing gear when setting up. Pros...Cons....??? Thanks

I am a beleiver in the tripod (maybe because I am to cheep to get the other) system it works for me. I have a large over hang and I feel it also helps support that part of the 5er. As said make sure you get between the wheel chocks they alone help alot. I guess one small other advantage is you can take the tripod with you when you trade units.

I have never considered this... Do over-hang's vary? Does one 5er have a larger one that another?
  • Much more solid of a feel with stabilizers. You don't have to have the SteadyFast or JT Strong Arms for them to work well. Just to see(experiment time), I put a set of Winfield RV stabilizers on mine due to the under belly storage unit on mine, (the other brands would not clear them) and have been completely satisfied. And they are only $199 shipped!Winfield Stabilizers
  • I had the Tripod for years on our previous 5th Wheel, it worked ok.
Current 5er has MorRyde rubber pin box so I went with the stabilizer's mounted to the landing gear, the difference between the Tripod and the stabilizer's is night and day.
5th Wheel is much more solid with the stabilizer's.
Stabilizer's much easier during setup, do not have to store them inside, got mine for the front only (did not need them for the rear) from http://www.plugitright.com/RVStabilizer.html , good price, good product.

  • Tripods work good for the front area to not wiggle on the landing gear but the ones that hook to the frame and to the rear stabilizers and front landing gear take about 95 percent of the wiggle out of the whole trailer along with good wheel chocks. I have had a tripod for many years but once I got the lower stabilizers on I have yet to use my tripod for about 5 years now. Just my opinion
