Depreciation is very steep in the US. I would consider buying a nice clean used unit to cut down on depreciation.
I would contact Camping World with your situation. Find a salesman who could act as your agent to find something you would want. They have stores all over and should be able to find what you need.
Also temperatures are probably much cooler than you would experience at home. Most campers are fair weather units. Which could force you to huddle in southern Florida or Texas for 6 months each year. That's what I do and there's nothing wrong with that. But you have places to go and things to see.
As much as I like fifth wheels, your situation may be better suited to a class A motorhome. Or at least a well insulated 5er like Mobile Suites.
Considering the cost of fuel and the amount of money you'll loose on the purchase and resale, it would be cheaper to travel in a car and stay in motels or rent a house for a month or two somewhere. The state and national parks frequently have cabins to rent. You might even tent camp if you wanted to get closer to nature. It'd give you more flexibility to rein in expenditures if they started to get out of control.
