Post is asking how to hold the chairs in an upright position.
My suggestion would be to simply attach a strap (could be Velcro or buckle) to the wall. Self tapping screw into a stud, washer will enlarge the screw head and avoid it coming through the strap material.
Simply wrap the strap around the chair (or chairs) and they should hold standing up.
Canvas chairs are light and should not create much stress. Weight would be on the floor through the legs .
I would try using a front wall as I would suspect you would have more motion when stopping vs. when taking off.... this way the pressure would be on the wall not the strap.
Easy to remove the screw/strap when trading in the unit leaving little evidence of your customization project.

Bought some stackable shelves from Menards,only could get 2 shelves high. I have two sets butting on the narrow end in the front of my Basement. They come in a box and you build.
Bought the narrower ones did not want them takng up too much of the basement.
Still have floor space left.
I access it on the driver side, Passenger side I bought a plastic 3 drawer slide unit for my small stuff.

I have been toying with this also. Please keep the ideas coming.

You could use some plastic pipe attached to the side or top of the compartment.

I like your platform idea. The best thing I did was make a some brackets for our lifetime table out of 1/2" EMT conduit and mount them to the top of our storage compartment . That way when we need our table we just slide it out. On our old trailer the table was on the bottom under everything,(PITA).

Sorry I just reread your post. I think you are suggesting moving the chairs to the very front compartment. Have to take a look at that idea. Thank you

We do have floor to ceiling space. It is just when the chairs are laying flat we lose much of that space. If we could set them on end we would gain floor space. Just need ideas of securing them in the upright position rather than laying on the floor and stacking.

I would think that the front compartment should handle your chairs w/o a problem. We have at least 4' or more floor to ceiling w/ ours.
