Storage parking - How tight is too tight?

Hi guys, I just bought a new Heartland Sundance XLT 285TS. I'm currently storing it at a local RV storage lot but I would really like to have it at my house. I have a gated 35'x 11' 6" concrete pad beside my house I'd like to store it in. Seems like it should fit no problem but there is a gas meter and roof/gutter overhang that take up 19" beside the house. I've done a lot of measuring and if I change up the gate and gate post furthest from the house, I will basically have 9' 11" available. The width of the 5th wheel plus the awning is 8'5". So it looks like I would have a total of 18" to work with between the gutter and the gate/fence. I have 66' between the driveway and street to try get the truck and 5th wheel lined up before going through the gate. Any chance of getting it in there or is that just too tight?
  • Is the drive where it is the tightest level? If not, then as the RV tilts it will actually take a wider footprint on the ground. The greater the tilt, the larger the footprint. That 18" clearance can be consumed surprisingly fast.
  • If it's a straight shot up to and through the relocated gate, I don't see a problem.
  • 66' in front should give you enough room to swing front end of truck.

Try it and see. You can always scrap the idea if it won't work out. I would suggest though, having at least a couple of spotters to make sure you can clear everything.

    Best of luck.
