Storage roof to low!

I just bought a new KZ Durango 333RLT 5th wheel and now I can't use my storage shed! With the trailer hooked up to my truck I need about 6" more height to clear the air conditioner. We backed it into the shed using friends tractor front end loader because we could lower it. Does anyone have an idea to allow me to lower the nose enough to back into the shed? I have thought about a 5th wheel hitch someway mounted into my receiver hitch. I just need to move the trailer about the last 5 foot with the front lowered.

  • Building something on a trailer is going to be difficult. The suspension will compress when the weight of the trailer sits on it, and you have a pretty small window to lower the rig before the front jacks touch the ground.

I’d go with something with no suspension and a rigid drawbar that is pinned so you can get it out of the way. I think I’d make a dolly with weld on axle stubs.

Decent welder ought to be able to knock one out in a few hours for a few hundred dollars.

OT, but kind of funny. Friend got a new tractor with a roll bar. To get it in the shed they pulled the board above the opining. Told adult son to rip it down and put back up. Son goes hunting for the round toit. Other son sees the board, so to help dad, he put it back up. Dad decides to mow, roll bar hits board, board hits Dad, tractor hits fence then pond. Dad recovered from slight conclusion, Tractor stuck in mud before sucked in water. I have not seen first son in 20 years...

If the latter, dig a couple wide ruts for the wheels....

Dig inside? First, how deep will you need to dig at the wheels to drop nose 6 inches? Might be better to put the drive axle of TV in a dip as the AC goes thru the door? At least if can't drain lake eerie would be outside...
  • thanks for replies! Altering the roof or the floor is not an option because the shed belongs to someone else. We did raise the sides as high as we could but still need about 10 or so more inches. I believe the hitch mounted on a flat bed of some type would work! I only need it for the last 4 -5 feet. I can back in until I get to the airconditioner, lower the nose, and push the trailer in the rest of the way.

That is definitely an option. I did not have the vertical clearance to get the air conditioner under the header. Concrete floor, hmmmm. Rented a concrete saw and cut two tracks in the floor back far enough so that the AC cleared the header and then the wheels go up on the concrete floor via a chiseled out slope in the end of the cut. It works and I have two drop in 2 inch treated cut to fit the track so shen the door drops down all is closed. rude and crude? But it works. ;)

  • Just start with a flatbed trailer with short overhang. (build, or maybe cut the back off on?) Build a mount for 5th wheel hitch, as low as needed. Would want tongue long enough to keep nose away from tailgate.
If I was building a trailer for this I would want a spread tandem, with no suspension. To turn, would need to slide the tires, so with the weight of 5th wheel on it would tend to go straight. Line up with door, in as far as you can. Unhook, then back the dolly under, lined up straight. Would be best if could go in deep enough to leave dolly under the nose
