Studded Winter Tires

We will be travelling from eastern Canada to Florida in Feb.
We have studded winter tires on the TV Do we have to take summer tires with us to install in the southern states and then reinstall winters on our way home?

  • If it were me, I would remove the studded tires before I left eastern Canada. With a 5th wheel over the rear axle, you won't be needing the traction from the studs. If traveling gets that slippery, you should be off the road. If ice is the concern, does it make sense to have the studded tires on the truck and have no traction aids on the trailer wheels? Could be a prescription for jack knifing, if you try stopping on ice.

And then there is the thought of carrying all those tires around. Just leave them home.
  • Just a side story. I taught shop for 30 years and some of my students raced dirt bikes. In the winter they would put hex head metal screws in the tires to race on the ice on the St. Lawrence River. They told me it was not a good place to be behind someone who's tire was spitting out metal screws. Ron Day
  • You probably wouldn't anyway but don't come thru Wisconsin. Totally illegal except on emergency vecihles. Heck, I don't even think you could find tires that except them.
