Sun screem added to awning

We have a Voltage 3905. We would like to add a sun screen to the awning with possibly rolling up with the awning when it retracts. Has anyone tried this?
  • Go to a glass and screen shop and order some 90% suntex in black, works great and folds ez. You can sew a hem on it on one long side and slip in the plastic rope awnings use to secure the fabric to the rail.

No it should not be rolled up in awning.

They sell rubbber slide in tabs with hooks on them, sold at any camping store. They slide into the groove in the awning tube. The hook attaches to the grommet holes in the sun shade. The tabs need to be taken out also before rolling up awning. IMHO Fabric ones are better than the plastic ones for hanging a sun shade lays downward flatter.

Rockhillmanor, could you leave the tabs in if you took the s hooks out.. especially if you get the webbing tabs rather than rubber? seems like it wouldn't make a huge difference then.
  • We made our own with fabric from Lowe's years ago. We folded the top about 2" and sewed it with the sewing machine. Then ran a line of plastic clothesline through it. Now we just feed it through the awning strap hole on the bottom of the awning. The clotheslines rope keeps it wedged in the hole, and it's easy to pull out if the wind kicks up. Grommets along the bottom allow us to either weigh it down or secure it with some rocks or a stake to keep it in place. It helps keep the RV cooler and aided in our fridge doing better when we camped in Utah at 110° at Coral Pink Dunes.

I've left those tabs in w/the hooks no worries.

But when I tried to roll up the awning sunscreen we made it was way to bulky and wind while driving could easily have caught it and caused problems.
