Suspension upgrade

I'm looking at enhancing the rear suspension on my 2016 F250. My 5th wheel sits it down a bit. I'm looking at the Firestone air bags but had a mechanic recommend the Roadmaster Active Suspension Kit to eliminate future leaks and bag degrading. Does anyone have experience with the roadmaster kit and will it level the vehicle when towing the heavy load like an airbag?

  • Future truck owners take note. What is the first thing 250/2500 owners do? They get a RV that has more pin weight than their suspension can handle and rides low in the rear. Then they have to do a mod that costs more than just getting the 350/3500 in the first place.

"ADDING air bags will only raise the truck to level... it WILLNOT add payload capacity"

I agree with the above statement ON PAPER. So for example look at the whimsy spring pack on my RAM Dually with 9,750 RAWR. Two thin full length springs and two 1/2 length springs each side plus air bags. Full RAWR in pic.

  • The FIRST thing I would do is run over a scale.... depending on what size fifth wheel you are probably over on your ratings.. the 250's are rated to TOW a lot, buy NOT rated to haul (payload in bed of truck) nearly enough to handle a larger fifth wheel, and the pin weights they have.

Tell us what make and model fifth wheel you are towing, perhaps someone here has the same set up and can toss in their thoughts..

ADDING air bags will only raise the truck to level... it WILLNOT add payload capacity, thus making stay over weight if there to start.
  • You might check in with our truck camper forum as they carry 3k-5k lb truck campers on our LDT's and may have experience with the RAS kit.

I'm installing some Firstone air bag on my 2016 ram tomorrow but I haven't heard of those guys, air lift and firestone have been around for a long time and have been proving but roadmaster kit I haven't heard so I can't comment on those.
