Tear in rubber roof

I knew when I bought this trailer last fall it was inevitable that I would wind up scraping a branch due to the additional 5er height and some places we camp. Sure enough this last weekend backing into a spot the DW wasn't looking up and this was the result.

I had plans from the get-go to add a stip of Eternabond tape along each side to help avoid this but looks like I waited to long and that is my fault

Now that the damage is done I'm looking for advice on how to best handle. I know they make repair kits out there but are they any good? If I'm going to lay down a stip of Eternabond tape should I even bother with trying to repair the rips?

  • I wouldn't even bother glueing down the tears. Your call, but simple rubber cement or "Goop" might work well enough.

Alcohol will evaporate so fast it won't have time to affect the rubber. All you want to do is get anything "oily" off the surface so the Eternabond sticks real well.
  • Thanks, any recommendations on type of glue to use on the tears prior to taping.

I do plan to clean up the area before applying the Eternabond. Is alcohol safe to use? I would think it would eat the rubber.

x2. Eternabond is a one time repair.
    Use a roller when applying.
  • Yup...Eternabond is magical! I just repaired a similar situation on my motorcycle trailer. Don't make a mistake applying it! You'll never get it off!Don't ask me how I know this......

Clean the rubber roof very well with alcohol before applying.
