Temperature inside rv

I hope I am in the right spot for this question.

If I am outside my 5th wheel and I want to know how warm or cold it is inside the RV. Does anyone know of a product I can buy that would tell me. We have a dog and if we stop and put the dog in the RV and leave it for awhile I want to monitor how warm or cold it is inside for its safety. Any ideas out there?

No, it would just have to be a separate thermometer on wifi, like this one:

This one will even alert you with text
  • I've seen folks put indoor/out door thermometers outside the rig to keep track of the temp for their pets.

I've seen folks put them in their utility bay to monitor the temp during cold weather.

I've seen folks put them in the fridge/freezer to monitor that temp.

You can normally have three measuring three different things (most have an A, B & C frequency) if you are not too close to your neighbors.

Many times in commercial RV parks, and rallys, I don't need to put my outside thermometer up because someone close is using one, and I can read their signal.

  • If I understand you correct, you want to know what the temp is inside your RV while you are away?

There is some wifi thermostat technology that will communicate to a phone ap that you could check every once in a while to see the temp. I just don't recall who has them.
  • Most of the electronic temperature monitors available will have a remote transmitter, so you can get a temperature reading on the monitor of both inside and outside temperatures. Look for one with a MAX/MIN feature, which will also tell you the coldest and warmest temperature measured since the last time you reset the feature.
  • Two options depending upon how far away from the RV you wish to be. If within a few hundred feet, then something like this could work for you: Remote temp sensing from Amazon.

If you want to be miles away and know the temperature, then you need a way of transmitting the data from the RV to your phone or laptop. If you have always-on WiFi in your RV (like a Verizon MiFi for example), then this is an example of the type of device you could use: Internet based remote monitoring

If you don't have always-on WiFi, then things get expensive. You would need a sensor that can connect to the Cellular Network. For that, you need an access fee. While Verizon does have a $5/mo plan for machine-to-machine connections, it may be hard to get this as a private individual. Then you're looking at data plans on the order of $50 per month. Here is an example: Cellular sensor

I have the first one on order from Amazon. The other two I have looked at, but I don't have any actual experience with any of these.
  • We have a wireless indoor/outdoor thermometer.
I imagine you could mount one in your basement and place your sensor inside where your dogs are. That would allow you to check the inside temperature while you're outside.
