Teton

Really love the 04-08 Tetons. Looking to purchace one. I understand some of those years were better made than others. Was the decline when the original owner sold ?

What years should I avoid, and why. What would be the major problems common to Tetons by a particular year.

Thanks, Mike

Those are actually the worst years since they did sell it. They started cutting corners and many of them have water damage. We had ours repaired and it cost us 10,000.00 to repair the damage and fix the cause of the water damage. Don't get me wrong, they are beautiful and we love ours but when shopping make sure you look under the slide outs and push on it to make sure there are no soft spots. Check corners on the inside for soft spots in the walls . Slide the mattress down and look at the carpet and wall next to the bed. Get on the roof and check the sealants and check for any voids. We are selling our 2006 Teton Scottsdale bunkhouse but didn't want to sell it until all the repairs were made. Whoever buys it is getting a renovated trailer with all damage repaired.

IIRC - "Those are actually the worst years since they did sell it"

    Didn't "sell" - declared bankruptcy.

Restructured - but no more 5th wheels.

Employees had to know what was going on - and quality certainly had a downward spiral.

As noted - lots of *happy* pre-bankruptcy Teton owners on Escapees - usually can be found in the MDT and HDT forums.

    Buyer beware.

The original owners did sell to an investment firm and the company that bought them declared bankruptcy. When the original owners sold to that investment firm the quality of their craftsmanship went down quite a bit but the price of the units steadily increased.

  • Go to Tetoners.org . It is a Yahoo forum. There are owner/experts there that can help you. They also have Tetons for sale. Most are great deals. Also, the Escapee forums have lots of Teton Homes info. I am on my second one (a 1997 and a 2007) so I consider them one of the best available, even though they are no longer made. I don't think I would consider a 2008 as that is when they went belly up. Good luck with your hunt.
