Mostly because there is very little mechanical between a majority of Class 2 trucks and Class 3 trucks.

The biggest difference is the lettering on the Payload and VIN sticker GVWR. There is that magic glass ceiling for the 250/2500's of 10,000# GVWR!! 
That said, I will never understand someone buying a New (as in current model year) 2500 to carry/pull a 5er, unless the difference in registration cost and rules are huge!!
Personally, when I replace the 2001 2500, it will be at least a SRW 3500, and may also have hips!
Just like those the have had a couple year old 250/2500, change to a new 3500 SRW and say it is so much better! The difference is the age of the old TV.
