There's a reason to get rid of six-year-old tires.

I was going to replace that six-year-old tire right after one more little 900-mile trip. BAD MOVE. I hit a huge pothole on I-35 in northern Missouri. Three newer tires took the shock, but the fourth one (the six-year-old tire on the back axle of the trailer ) blew out.

It's not just the tire -- it's always the collateral damage that hurts. The blowout took out most of the wiring to one of the slides. I have spent most of three days splicing wires and running to Home Depot. Four of the wires went to speakers in the surround-sound system, so there was the added fun of figuring out which wire went to which speaker.

How I wish that I had replaced that tire BEFORE the trip.

Great looking Hitchhiker Roy. I'm guessing Goodyear g614 tires? Hope you get everything back in order soon.
My rig is built a bit different than all the others in that the slide arms, wiring, etc., are pretty well protected once the slides are closed. I have nothing underneath the rig at all but an lp line and the disc brakes lines. My biggest fear is losing the brakes if I loose a tire. The only drawback I can see to e/h disc brakes is that if you loose one you loose them all.
    Good luck and safe travels.

That size and year of HH may have come OEM with Uniroyal Laredo LT235/85R16E's. Who know's what they were replaced with besides the OP. Chris
  • I've seen trailer tires blow out without being on the ground, they were spares. One was stored under the trailer while the other was attached to the rear bumper. Chinese tires don't care how old they are, how they've treated, or if they've even been used. They are designed to blow up.
