I just saw a rather nice 24ft 5th wheel at the campground. Rear Living is pretty cool! Curious of just light these trailer can actually go. Mainly because I'm curious if my 1/2ton Tacoma 6v could handle one? It's my TV for the TT right now.
Contrary to what some have said....yes there are some (very few) 5er's that your Toy can haul. 90's era 24' and shorter unit were designed to be pulled by mid-size trucks. Lance, Shadow Cruiser, and a few others made some very lite 5ers. I've looked into them for my Ranger and if you do the proper research you can find one in good condition for a decent price...and they will tow SO MUCH BETTER than a TT. - amxpressExplorerI’ve not seen a 5th wheel hitch for a Tacoma as it has the plastic bed and wasn’t meant to tow a fiver. If you’re serious about getting a 5th wheel, get a bigger truck. You will be limited in 5th wheels with a 1500 or 150 truck, too. The 24’ you’re looking at should work OK though with a real 1/2 Ton; 1500 or 150 or even a Tundra.
- downtheroadExplorerArtum Snowbird above has a good suggestion..
but, the Escape has a 'wet bath', small holding tanks, no slide, and the bedroom is very tight.
Also, you mentioned you are interested in a rear lounge floor plan...?? - Artum_SnowbirdExplorerI will say yes... but you have to be careful and choose wisely.
This is my choice of fifth wheel for you. You will likely need wider mirrors on your Tacoma, but this should work for you.
Escape Fifth Wheel
They are beautiful little fifth wheel units, and not inexpensive either. Choose wisely. I often say, "buy what someone else will want". - N-TroubleExplorer1/2 ton Tacoma???
- downtheroadExplorerThe important number is payload..
Tacoma: 1,120 to 1,620 lbs and that's for a 2018.
Take from there. - TxGearheadExplorer IINo
- LadyRVerExplorer IIMy very first fiver was a 25', 6300 pounds fully loaded. I bought a F150, small V8 and it made it to the top of the hills... I then traded for V8 Dodge 1500 and that towed it like a boat.
If you got the model of the fifth wheel you liked, maybe you can look up the specs? From all my experiences towing fifth wheels from # 1 to # 4, IMHO your truck is not enough. - donn0128Explorer IINot likely. There maybe two fivers you might consider. Casita is one of them. But frankly towing a fifth wheel with your quarter ton would not be much fun. Stick with what you got until you can aford a more capable vehicle.
