Third set of leaf springs

My 2014 Excel XKE starts out dry near 15,000 lbs. Tomorrow I pick it up after a 3rd

set of leaf springs were installed. (The 1st being the original.) Question: Is there a

fix for this? Can an extra leaf be put in? Have other of you had a similar problem?
  • When visiting the axel factory I asked what the difference was between the 5200# and 6000# axels and was told "the springs" bearings and all else is the same. As a result I replaced my 5200# springs with 6000# springs from etrailer.com. At the same time I added the TrueTrack kit, after several years and thousands of miles all is well.

  • Pretty easy to add a leaf. You can do that in your driveway in about 15 minutes per side.
  • I plan on installing heavier springs some day. I only have about 1000# of CC left and will move up to 6K springs if I detect any sag.
I have found no down side to doing so as long as the axles themselves are up to it.
  • Go to www.rv-dreams.com look through the blog for the work they had done to change out to a Mor Ryde suspension on their 5th wheel. It was done a few years ago and they have been happy with it.

I replaced my 6000lb springs with 8000lb sets when one spring broke after 20 years. You obviously need stronger springs or reduce the weight in your trailer.
  • Did you replace them because they broke, because they flattened out, or some other reason?

Are you replacing the springs with identical sets? Sounds like you need to get with a different trailer shop, one that will install the correct springs to carry the trailer's weight.
  • When my 5200 lb springs failed on my 2 year old FW, I replaced them with 6000 lb springs they have 1 more leaf. it is on a 5200 lb axle it only been 2 months so have to wait and see if it helps
