I have the same problem with my HappiJac bunk bed. Down always works, up usually works. What I've found that gets around the problem is to fire up the generator. So far, that has worked every time to get the bed back up. Plugging into shore power may also work. I've searched for a solution but have come up empty.
I have a similar gap between the dinette and the wall. There's nothing that goes there that I know. It's just the way it is.
