Tips on changing lanes

I have a F350 long bed and just got a 34ft FW. This is longer than what I have towed before. Any tips/tricks on judging when you're sufficiently clear of traffic so you can change lanes safely? I do plan to practice with my son in another car with a walkie talkie.
Thanks
  • It's pretty much a visual thing. Your idea of checking with your son sounds like a good one.
  • I just look in the mirror and when I see Im clear I turn on turn sign and move over. Not a big deal

I spend 98% of my time in the right hand lane @62mph. Making a lane change only happens when I get behind a real slowpoke. That happens a lot less frequently than I feared when bought the 5ver. That right hand lane turns out to be a lot less stressful too.

I have found that if you turn your signal on early enough and start inching over, most drivers give you room. Some don't and don't care, no biggie. When pulling that much weight, defensive driving skills are best practice.
Also, I find I spend most time in the right lane on interstates. The most important thing is given plenty of space in front of you for if/when you have to stop quickly.
    That's my 2 cents.
