Tire Failures

I believe I might have the record. 4 tire failures in less than 100 miles on the freeway. Yes, made in China. 1st one did not fail completely. A person behind us flagged us down about a bubble on a tire. Pulled over and changed right rear. That is the picture that shows the funny tread. Changed tire with the spare. 40 more miles, bang left rear. Had to go by a tire at Goodyear. Decided to head home. 20 more miles, bang right front. Damage to skirting and frame support. Bought 2nd tire and repaired damage to continue home. 15 more miles, bang left front. Stores closed and no more tires. Called Road America. Story for another time. Tow driver brought a tire on a rim from his personal stash and we installed on trailer. Made it home. Trailer is a Wildcat 30 foot. Weighs in at about 10,500 lbs. Tire pressure was checked before we left. Load range E tires. Factory tires were load range D. This is not a flogging of China tires. just curious if anybody can beat 4 failures in less than 100 miles.
Footnote Damage could have been much worse but still not acceptable.

    Been doing research on tires recently. I see the Goodyears are still Chinese made. Good or bad? Don't know.

    Have my leanings towards BFG Commercials though I was victim to one of their recall tires about 5 years ago.

    Since then I have had a bit of a dogs breakfast of different tires for one reason or another.

    The latest plan is to take the 4 partially worn but young BFGs off the rear of the truck, put them on the trailer, & get new BFGs for the truck rear.

    One BFG Cmmercial TA before the recall and one of the recall replacements!

    There really should be an inquiry on why trailer tires don't last.

    And don't say they weren't maintained, covered, 303 protected and religious pressure monitoring.

    The only thing I did notice leading up to these failures was a temp difference (maybe 10 degrees) between slide side and non slide side, plus a few degrees difference between front and back. Now with basically 4 new tires they are more equal all around.

    Seeing more and more threads about the BFG failures. I suggest you go to the NHTSA web site and report. Maybe they will eventually have a recall. Have you called BFG to see if they will assist with costs? Please report back if they do.

    Four in a hundred miles gotta' be some type of record but not surprising when we look around the net at the many trailering forums.

    This toy hauler member may have the most ruined ST tires from a certain brand.

    We also have a 3612. After having 11 (ELEVEN) Maxxis fail we have upgraded to 16" BFGs. Just put them on the trailer TODAY. What a difference. There is a big difference in the two combos. We finally gave up on the 15s. After 11 failures in 3 years (and lucky enough to catch them before they blew, just separated) we gave up. We finally were carrying 3 spares and have come back with them all on the trailer. Maxxis did make a warranty adjustment (pennies on the dollar) on the first 6 but not anymore after that. Spend the money now to save more money in the long run. To put the 11 tires in prospective, we have over 95,000 miles on our Raptor in 4 years & we do max the load limits at times.

    Well that's unusual...according to a lot of posters on here you never have trouble with LT tires! I guess you can have problems with any of them.

    Ditto on the "looks like".

    And - yes, you are the new record holder for a single trip.

    However, "Fast Eagle" still holds the record for the *total number* of ST tires replaced for one trailer (IIRC - he admitted to 22).

    *If* they are GY - save the carcasses and GY *may* pay for any trlr damage.

    *If* GY wants to replace the tires, say "no thanks"..:(
