Tire Monitoring systems,

Never had them and have been RVing for many years. I personally have no interest in them. I keep a close eye on my tires and maintain the proper pressure and rarely exceed 65 mph. Good luck to you.

I went 6 yrs without one and never had a tire with low pressure. Added a TST 507RV last year. Still have not had a low tire.

But I really like the ability to monitor tire pressures and temperatures during a long drive. It is not unusual for me to drive 2-3 hours without stopping. If a tire picked up a nail shortly after starting out I could easily end up with a ruined tire within a few miles and, if it came apart, possibly damage to the RV. If a tire pressure drops below a certain set point or develops a rapid leak the system will alarm and I can pull over before it is ruined. Will not prevent a sudden blowout, but could definitely save ruining a tire on a slower leak.

Based on my experience I would recommend the TST 507RV system. It does have user replaceable batteries.

I chose to spend that TPMS money on the best tires I could find .
Besides I always have downtime in the campsite to check my PSI all the way around .
Enroute at every gas stop and outlook break I walk around the trailer and feel the heat in my tires .
A low tire will always be hotter than the others .
As most do I check the tires thoroughly before every trip .
My dollars are better spent putting the best four on the ground .
The spare can be junk .
It has never been used .

I've had 2 instances when it would have been nice to have had a TPMS. Once a tire stem cracked and I didn't realize it until the next stop when the tire had about 10 psi of air in it and was hot as a pistol. It didn't blow but easily could have due to heat buildup. The other time I had a tire disintegrate and didn't know it until a passing driver apprised me of the situation. I did have 1 catastrophically fail, but I don't know that a TPMS would have warned me in time to have done any good. That one cost me damage to the toyhauler and I heard it loud and clear.

I now have the TST 507 system and I just look at it as fairly cheap insurance. If it saves me some damage to my toyhauler it's worth it.

I like the T P M systems. I have had two times it has saved trailer damage. One with a bad valve stem and the other time the tire got cut and lost the air fast. The one with the bad valve stem saved the tire but the cut tire was toast but no trailer damage from it.

Two times with the temperature was about 40° higher than the other tires and they had a knot on them.

Saving the one tire almost covered the cost of the system so yes I like the T P M system.

In all my years of driving, I have yet to run over a road hazard while standing still. Yes you can check your tires while standing still, but how do you check them while moving? That's where road hazards are met.

To each their own I guess, but I see no viable reason not to have one.

We just installed the TPMS on our Newmar and Jeep. Don'tcha know first time out we got a warning, found a safe place to pull out and yep, the inside dual drives side was low pressure, it wasn't when we left. got out the hose and added air back to 100 psi. 15 minutes latter we got the alarm again, this time it was down to 65 psi. when we pulled into the Les Schwab tire center. They pulled it checked it and found the hose that allows us to fill/service the tire has failed, I think it was a save, but I could have ruined the hose installing the TPMS. but again, why would the hose fail by screwing on a monitor? the other inside dual got a new hose too.

I'd like to have all the money I've spent on tires that could have been saved had I known they were over temp or under inflated.

How many times have you seen parts of tires lying in the road, that came apart when they got too hot? I now know when mine are.

The tires on the Newmar are over 600 bucks each. save one? pay for the TPMS.

I have the TST 507 system. It might have saved me a tire 3 years ago if I had it on my trailer, don't know. By the time I found out about it there was nothing left but the beads on the rim. Only a 65 mi trip.

While I do walk around and visually check my tires before a trip I have better things to do than walk around with a tire gauge. I turn on the system (the sensors are never removed form the tires, just the monitor turned off) abt 30 min before expected departure and by the time I am ready to go I look at the monitor and check the tires. The air compressor is still right there if needed. If not I'm gone.

It also allows for peace of mind going down the road. If tire blows I know it wasn't because of low pressure. Stuff happens.
