Tire Pressure

I keep my trailer tires and the rear pick up truck tires at max. the front truck tires 10 under max.

I did have a blowout on the front once, should I run the front at max?

An ST tire is probably not stronger then a LT tire.
They only are calculated in their maximum load for more deflection allowed.
Small difference is that ST has lesser profile depth so a bit less isolation of the treath, so a bit better cooling, but marginal to my opinion.

And because most Trailers have tires that have yust enaugh maximum load to carry the GAWR's , you will have to keep them at AT pressure given on sidewall or belonging to loadkind ( D-load =AT65 psi).

But most tire-makers allow 10 psi above AT-pressure and also the valves can stand that cold pressure. Highening up of pressure by temperature rising in tire is taken into account by the tire-makers.

So general rule is that its better to give the tires that 10 psi extra, to give them the same deflection so heatproduction , an LT tire would have, wich is better for savety of tire and fuel saving.

So even when Topicstarters real weight is 2000 lbs below GVWR, the AT pressure ( wich is not the maximum cold pressure) wont give bumping, and more reserve for things like , pressure loss in time, misreadings of pressure , misyudging of loads on seperate tires, etc etc.

And I once read that the tires are tested to can stand 2 to 3 times the AT pressure so when warm 2 times 65 psi in your case =130 psi at least . Test standards use that .
So dont be affraid of the high pressure , tires and valves are tested to can stand that , even the higher pressure at higher inside tire temperature up to 212 degr F so boiling point of water.

That is not really all that uncommon, especially when you get to the heavier duty trucks (I'm talking pickup truck, not MDT and HDT trucks). My 1987 F350 dually has 65psi max rated rims, while the tires can go up to 80psi.

My trailer tires are rated at 80lbs and I run them at 75lbs cold. Never really considered going to 80lbs but I'll try it!

No. Tow vehicle weight should be based on weight on the axles.

I ran my truck across a CAT scale loaded and unloaded.
Based on those axle weights, I looked up a load inflation table and I adjust my tire pressure based on that.

I got 64,000 miles on my last seat of dually rear tires doing this. And there was still tread left over when I traded the truck in.

I always run max pressure in my tires. Knock on wood, I've never had a problem with a blow-out. My last set of tires lasted 7 years.
