Tire problems in Texarkana area . outside wear issues

Parked overnight in North Texas - heading north. One of our RV (5th. wheel) tires has excessive wear on the outside areas only. The tire looks sort of 'round' shaped. The inside thread parts looks fine.

What would be the cause? And should I continue to drive or swap over to the spare?:@

p.s. Pls. no wise cracks about looking round - because I was look'n at the thread area only.
  • If it's only one tire, chances are someone might have unknowingly "curbed" that wheel/tire at some point and now it's running with excessive positive camber (the top of the wheel is farther out than the bottom) or excessive toe-in. A good large trailer shop can take care of a realignment, but like making sausage, you don't want to watch how they do it!!

Another possibility is belt shift on that particular tire. If that's happening, you might want to switch to the spare and monitor wear carefully to ensure that it's not edge-riding on the outer part of the tread.

    Just a couple of possibilities.....

  • Bent axle. Find a truck trailer alignment shop and have it professionaly checked. Could be as simple as a bad tire, or as bad as a bent spindle. Either way you need a professional to check it.
