I would pop for 235/85/16 michelin ribs or the tire I am running, bridgestone duravis R250. Your best bet for an 80 psi tire.
You would be better off getting the G614s and only inflating them to 80 psi. They will still have the same load rating as any of the E tires mentioned and they are a lot tougher tire.
Those are all good choices but the load rating on those tires (3,042 lb.) puts him under his GVW for the trailer. They would probably hold up to the weight but why take the chance? I think the Maxxis are the best choice in a pinch.
Besides, next time around he will have time to research and find the best rim/tire combination. He might even have someone close by that would snatch up his 16" rims real cheap. :B
